FAQs

What is this e-course all about?

Are you curious to know how to develop a business or marketing plan for your idea or company? Are you an artist with an Etsy shop and want to know how to promote it effectively without wasting lots of time? Or, are you a designer with an online portfolio and a blog that no one reads and need some guidance? Or finally, maybe you have a successful brick and mortar shop with little or no online presence. These are just a sampling of the people we felt needed a course just like this.

BAKERY’s Half-Dozen: 6 Weeks to a Tastier Business is our baby. We began working on the course in early 2009, when we recognized a need for online marketing and internet business courses that were relevant and affordable to independent business owners, artists, writers, and designers. We consult with a number of business-owners, artists, and designers and after a while, started recognizing a common question: How do I present and market myself online? This key thread has a many-fold answer, an answer which we decided to give in the form of this course.

Who should take this course?

We designed this course as an introductory business course that focused on Internet marketing, advertising, and promotion. It is for small businesses, startups, and anyone who might be newer to the world of online promotion. Artists, designers, crafters, and shopkeepers, and newer bloggers would certainly benefit from it as well. And, of course, if you like to stall, procrastinate, and dilly-dally, we want you! This course is your kick-in-the-pants to get going!

How long is the course?

Our e-course will run for 6 weeks with an archive period of 2 weeks (so that you can go back to all information for 2 weeks after the course ends). It will then start up again, at our discretion.

What do I need?

A computer and printer, a reliable Internet connection, an email account, and a desire to take your business — whether it’s an idea or a full-blown retail shop with employees — to the next level. To view our videos and listen to audio, we recommend that you have QuickTime Player 6 or higher installed, free to download here. For downloaded materials, you will need a PDF reader, such as Adobe Reader.

In addition, we recommend that you purchase a small 3-ring binder with a plastic front insert so you can download our binder cover and keep all your worksheets nice and neat. A plain old folder works, too. Please come prepared with an open mind, a good attitude, and plenty of questions.

What is the cost of your e-course?

Our 6-week course is $120, which equates to $20/week. Former BAKERY clients get a 50% discount (contact us for details)! We have worked very hard to put together a useful intro course that still gets into the meat and potatoes of online business. We have developed downloadable course materials, videos, and blog posts, along with our time spent chatting and commenting with you. The fee covers all of these previously mentioned items, and also offers you a little bit more motivation to take it seriously.

p.s. A consultation with BAKERY runs about $100/hour so you get us for just $120 for 6 weeks. I’d say that’s a bargain!

How much time am I going to need to dedicate?

Although this could be considered a 6-week crash course, it’s quite intense and jam-packed with info and goodies. There is so much information in this course (over 50 postings worth!) that we expect you to devote at least 6-10 hours a week to reading posts, participating in discussions, and doing assignments. If you spend less than 6 hours we can’t guarantee you will get all that you can out of it, so please try to dedicate as much time as you can. You will get out of this course what you put into it. Tough love!!

What happens if I need to take the course again?

If for some reason you sign up and cannot participate in the course or you decide you want to re-take it, we’re happy for you to sign up again for half-price, or $60.

What kind of community environment / classmate communication do you offer?

We offer connection between classmates through blog comments and email. We will not distribute your contact information to another classmate without your permission. We encourage an open forum, where you can talk to each other and offer suggestions and helpful criticism. Hurtful, unnecessary comments will not be tolerated.
